Our Committee and Meetings

During November of 2007, Sibsey Free School became registered as an Eco School and began working towards our Green Flag status.

The first process was to establish a committee who would be dedicated to achieving this status, a committee from the school and the wider school community. We also invited pupils who are already involved in the School Council and School Field Committee to join us as they have an elected active role in the day to day running of the school and are a two way feed of information to and from this committee.

The committee at the moment consists of:-

Mr Phil Coote                 Headteacher

Mrs Jane Murdoch          Non-teaching staff and Governor

Mrs Dot Roshier             Parish Council Representative and Governor

Mrs Jo Hutson               Governor

Ryan                             School Council and Field Committee

Mollie                            School Council

Elliott                            School Council

We have also asked Mrs Lorraine Bull to join us as she runs the Sibsey Dibbers (the school gardening club) and will hopefully have a representative from their committee as well.

Mrs Hutson, Ryan, Mollie and Elliott have met during lunchtimes to get some ideas together of how the pupils view the ‘Eco Friendliness’ of the school and how we can improve this.

Pupil Committee

ECO WORKING GROUP MEETING - WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY 2008

The first stage was to look at the school at the present time and complete an Eco Survey which we completed on the 30th January 2008.

Ryan, Mollie and Elliott decided at the last meeting that it would be helpful if they invited along a friend who was not on a committee, so we welcomed Tristran, Tori and William to our sub committee.

Survey Committee

We looked at the whole of the school building and with the earlier assistance of Mrs Smith, the Caretaker, looked at each classroom to see which windows were double glazed, which had draught excluding strips, which doors were self closing and the type of light bulbs used.

We need to check whether each classroom has it’s own thermostat, where the electricity and water meters are and to set up a pupil monitoring energy reading system.

We intend to look at the school stationary supplies and look at how much of these are of recyclable material and where the school could change to using recycled items.

Survey Committee at Work

Our first job is to sort out two Eco-Warriors in each classroom to make sure that all lights are turned off when the room is empty, windows shut and any computers that are not being used, are turned off. We intend to develop and ‘Anti Litter Policy’ and a policy to minimise waste.

We will need to keep the corridor lights on for health and safety reasons, but would like the KS2 pupils to check that when they pass the hall, that if no-one is using the hall that the lights are turned off.
