Mrs Hutson has written back, thanking them for their support and thanking them again for obtaining the compost bin for us from East Lindsey District Council. We shall include them in the loop of minutes so they can be kept regularly up to date.
- Discussion Points.
- Any Other Business – None
- Date and Time of Next Meeting – Not set yet but will be towards the end of April. Mrs Hutson to check with Mr Coote’s diary and will be held (subject to Mrs M’s room availability) in class 6
Ellie brought in some correspondence from a Company offering summer bedding plants at a reduced rate for re-sale as a fundraiser. Mrs Bull took the information to see if the project was worth doing as in her experience, these companies prove to be quite expensive.
A Background – Mrs Hutson, Ryan and Mollie gave an update to this committee of the meetings so far. We have had several Eco meetings, done a school survey and produced an Eco Action Plan. We gave the aims of the project – to gain our Eco School status and become a Sustainable School.
B Progress So Far – we have already done a huge amount towards Eco/Sustainable schools, please click the link below to see our work.
C Finance – we have no specific finance for this committee but the School Council are running a phone recycling project and all funds received from this will be kept by the school council, but earmarked for Eco projects.
D Eco Warriors – Job Descriptions. – We produced a list of jobs which we feel our Eco Warriors need to be doing. Georgia and Ellie pointed out that people are already specified in class 6 to do some of the jobs but sometimes forget! The list we have produced will form a separate part to these minutes. All of the pupils will take away this list and produce an A4 poster which will be laminated to go in each classroom to remind the Eco Warriors of their jobs.
We think that we shall need to review this job description at the next meeting to make sure that we have the correct items on it and delete some that may not be needed.
E Feedback/Update from associated groups.
SCHOOL COUNCIL – Ryan and Mollie reported that the school council are presently engaged in producing the school code which will be displayed inside and outside the school. They are also working on a Healthy Schools Tuck Shop, which is presently in the planning stages.
SCHOOL FIELD COMMITTEE – Georgia and Ellie reported that the main project at the moment is getting ready for the arrival of the rabbit! The name will be chosen by a competition which will be used as a fundraiser as well. Mrs Bull asked who will look after the rabbit at weekends and holidays and the committee reported that it would be done on a rota basis and the cage would be padlocked at night.
SIBSEY DIBBERS – THE GARDENING CLUB – Mrs Bull gave a comprehensive report which is on the website and included as an attachment to these minutes. She also added that the group are using peat free compost from a sustainable source and that no chemicals or additives are being used anywhere on the club projects. Mrs Hutson offered the assistance of the Friends of Sibsey Free School with financial help regarding the running of the Gardening Club. Mrs Bull has also designed a Sensory Garden to be built at the front of the school, which will be filled with plants chosen for their touch and scent. It may include a water feature. Attention will be given to the wild area at the bottom of the field as it is quite wild at the moment! More raised vegetable beds are planned and she is planning to run an ‘adopt a pot’ scheme which will enable pupils to take home, record and harvest the crops produced as last year, she had quite a lot to take care of!
PARISH COUNCIL – No update received
GOVERNORS – Three governors were present and they are all part of the team who set the Governor targets for the year, which included this Eco Schools project.
STAFF – two members of staff were present and Mrs Smith will be available to help with the technical aspects of making the school more Eco friendly and sustainable where feasible.
F – PROGRESS SO FAR - we are a noticeboard away from being able to apply for our bronze award!
NOTICEBOARD - Mrs Hutson and pupils will start on the noticeboard when we get one sorted. A rota will then be established to update it.
MINUTES – Where possible, minutes will be distributed by e-mail. Ellie, Georgia, Mollie, Ryan and Elliott to pass their school or home e-mail addresses to Mrs Hutson. Hard copies will be produced where necessary. They will be published on the website for anyone else to view.
G Appointment of Chairman – Before anyone else had a chance to say anything, Mrs Smith proposed that Mrs Hutson be Chairman, seconded by Mrs Stubley and unanimously carried. Job Done!
