Structure and Responsibilities

All Governors attend the Full Governors meetings, held 3 times a year. The Governing Body is divided into three ’working group’ subsections that administer the overall school:-

·         Curriculum and Pupil

·         Finance and Staffing

·         Building and Fabric

Curriculum and Pupil deal with just that – the standards relating to the School’s Curriculum and policies and issues which have implications on the finances of the school. They deal with Pupil Admissions, the School Prospectus, Pupil Discipline issues and many other issues relating to the Pupils and their learning.

Finance and Staffing Governors prepare and monitor the Annual School Budget. They ensure that the school operates within their budget parameters. They also oversee the staffing of the school, participating in and selecting new members of staff, dealing with any issues of staff discipline and reviewing their performance.

Building and Fabric look after the bricks and mortar. They deal with the Health and Safety of the school and all those in it and make sure that the school is accessible for the staff, pupils and visitors. They ensure that repairs are carried out where necessary and oversee any new building projects that may take place on the premises.

The Governing Body appointments are made up of representatives from the Staff, the Community, Parents/Carers, the Trustees of the School and the local authority. They have a wide range of skills that they can call on to help them to administer and guide the school.

Being a School Governor is a very rewarding experience. Not only does it give an individual the opportunity to play a part in the primary education of the community, but also the chance to enhance their own personal development with new skills and opportunities gained during their time in governance.
